Question:
My wife stopped Paxil 1 month from conception. She is now 13 -14 weeks. She is having a lot of serious anxiety now. She is considering abortion because of possible birth defects if she goes back on Paxil. She also can have a higher heart rate...does not sleep well...worries about minor things, i.e. making a mountain out of a mole hill.
Do you think the risks of taking Paxil in this case are justified?

Like Prozac, Paxil has a very low risk of problems except at extremely high doses. If her symptoms were under control with the Paxil, the risk is low of taking Paxil while pregnant - especially later on in the pregnancy. There are risks to the baby of untreated panic and depression in the mother.
