Question:
Hello Dr. Heller,
Your site has given me hope but also confused me as well.
I know with certainty I have BPD. I have spent my whole
life jumping to conclusions, being sensitive to
rejection, desperately needing the people I'm pushing
away at the same time, I'm empty, bored, moody, angry,
and in SO much emotional pain. I'm also very impulsive,
which has led to binges on food, alcohol, or drugs, and
reckless spending.
I also have GAD, major depression, and panic disorder.
My psychiatrist scripted Valium, Paxil, and Trazodone (I
forgot to mention I have considered suicide and self
injure at times well). It has not really helped.
I am wondering what meds have helped people such as
myself with so many mental conditions. Should I be
finding someone who will find the right combination for
everything?
I am desperately in need of help. I hope you can reply
ASAP.
Dr. Heller's Answer:
Every physician has his/her own way of treating things.
It can be difficult to find a practitioner willing to try
approaches from other physicians.
The combination of BuSpar, Prozac and Tegretol is usually
a miracle for my patients with the GAD and BPD.
Sequencing is important as well. I usually prescribe
BuSpar for two weeks first, then add Prozac, and then add
Tegretol a week later.
As needed medications are important as well.
