Question:
Hi, I was just wondering what your experiences have been
with the new drug Abilify for dysphoria. Is it better than
Haldol (haloperidol)? Which has less side effects? Thanks
in advance.

Haldol remains the best for as needed use. It works in 10
minutes and for 99% has no side effects.
In treating my BPD patients, Abilify has two uses...
1) It sometimes works just as well as Risperdal, only in 3
hours instead of 24 hours. About 30% get just as sedated as
Risperdal, 70% don’t. If it works and doesn’t cause
grogginess, it’s a great addition to the treatment regimen.
2) It’s the best for chronic daily use under stress -
particularly in those who can’t take Tegretol and Depakote
doesn’t work well.
