Question:
I have been suffering from "something" for years. My
primary doctors prescribes 1 antidepressant after
another. When I read about Bipolar and Borderline
disorders they both sound like: "what’s wrong here". Is
there any way you can have both disorders? I know I may
seem crazy asking this but I feel crazy. Please help. I
am too embarrassed to see a therapist. I don’t want to
be labeled "crazy".

Absolutely, it’s not uncommon to have both. I don’t
like to use the word "crazy". If you have both the
BPD and bipolar you do experience psychosis. You’ve
likely already labeled yourself as "crazy" and are
afraid a therapist would agree with you. Some
therapists do label people, but you have two medical
brain disorders that can be successfully treated.
The BPD responds best to Prozac (fluoxetine) with
Tegretol (carbamazepine). Fortunately, Tegretol is an
excellent anti-mania drug. If bipolar depression or
mania is present and the patient is already being
treated with Prozac (fluoxetine) and Tegretol
(carbamazepine) then Zyprexa 10mg nightly for 3 nights
usually settles things down. Lithium is usually needed
for persistent bipolar depression and suicidality.
