I am taking Effexor XR for 3 years and I have
gain a lot of weight (30 pounds). I exercise a lot and
I don't seem to eat that much more than before. I also
dieted for several month without any success. I take
this medication for panic attacks (AGORAPHOBIA) that I
was having around once a month sometimes more. Should
I consider stopping this medication? (sorry for my bad
English I am French Canadian from Montreal)

The FDA approved package insert does not list weight
gain as a side effect, but I've seen many people who
did indeed gain weight.
Abruptly quitting Effexor can be miserable due to the
withdrawal syndrome. It should be slowly tapered down,
usually with the addition of an SSRI antidepressant
like Prozac (fluoxetine).
