Question:
My doctor is trialing me on this new med. It
doesn't seem to have the same calming effects as
does Depakote, nor do its antidepressant properties
quell the impulsiveness and impatience as well as
did Celexa. The one great thing about it is that it
gave me and my husband our intimacy back. I'll
never go back on an SSRI for that reason. What
other meds or meds combos do you know of that
effectively treat Dyslimbia, depression and anxiety
combined?

Lamictal has overall been disappointing. It's an
alternative when the patient is allergic to
Tegretol (carbamazepine) or Depakote (valproic acid
or valproate).
Treating all the diagnoses is crucial. If the
cognitive generalized anxiety disorder is present,
BuSpar (buspirone) is needed. If OCD or OCPD are
present, then high SSRI doses are needed. Panic
disorder requires a moderate SSRI dose and a
benzodiazepine. If the BPD is present the Prozac
(fluoxetine) / Tegretol (carbamazepine) combination
is unbeatable. I usually treat my BPD/panic
patients with this combination when I have to
prescribe benzodiazepines - which can worsen the
severity of losing control of one's behavior.
