Question:
Can pregnancy hormones play a factor
in obtaining BPD during and after pregnancy? Even
when an individual does not have any signs of a
mental illness?

If the BPD was not present prior to
the pregnancy it's extraordinarily unlikely that
it would suddenly show up during pregnancy or just
after. The hormonal swings of pregnancy, and
the intensity of post partum depression can make
the BPD worse.
One possible explanation is getting pregnant shortly
after falling in love. Falling in love causes
endorphins to be produced, which can temporarily make
BPD symptoms go away or lessen. This effect
generally only lasts 3-12 months, and then the
individual goes back to their normal state.
