QUESTION:
Dear Dr. Heller,
I was a sleepwalker as a child, frequently for about 5 years, then at age 12 I stopped. Now, at 29, I have started this pattern again. I noticed that I am not rested in the a.m. when I wake, and I woke up once at the front door. I was going outside to look for the cat...what could have triggered this again, and can it be treated so I can get a good nights rest??
ANSWER:
No one knows for sure what causes sleep walking. It's usually a neurological
problem. It could be a seizure disorder, psychosis, or some other sleep disorder.
I would recommend getting checked. A sleep study and EEG (brain wave test) would
likely be warranted.
