My mother had Bipolar and I was wondering if you knew any statistical findings about the chances of contracting it from her genetically? I have looked all over the web and am having no luck finding anything.

ANSWER:
There are some forms of bipolar that have a strong correlation - particularly the
Amish.
Bipolar overall does run in families, and if a close biological relative has bipolar you
need to be evaluated should any problems occur. The exact statistics are not known yet.
