QUESTION:
Dear Dr. Heller,
Please explain what ophthalmic migraines are. I just had my first 2 episodes within 7 days. I am 47 years old.
ANSWER:
Knowledge about migraines is constantly evolving. The migraine headache appears to begin at the back of the brain where the vision is located. Ophthalmic migraine appears to be a neurological malfunction (seizure?) in that back part of the brain. It can sort of be viewed as a migraine without the headache.
