QUESTION:
Hello,
I have written this e-mail, with regards of my mother. She has been to several doctors, including neurologists, and psychologists, they identified that a nerve is being pinched, by her bones, on her elbow, which according to me wouldn't seem to effect her, at least not mentally, anyway, she was given a few medicines, which the psychologist said would help her relax, and bring her anxiety and depression levels low. My mother is taking those medicines, but is constantly suffering from head aches, and worst of all is when she is woken up during her sleep, she doesn't seem to know what she is talking about, she usually mixes things up, and starts talking about funny things. However, if she wakes up as usual, in the morning, she seems to be fine.
Also another thing, some couple of weeks ago, before she had visited any doctors, she had lost it, she walked out of bed, and started taking rational actions eg. she didn't even put on shoes, and walked out of the house, just in time for my dad to have seen her, and brought her back. We finally managed to cool her off. That was only once, God forbid it happens again.
Then just last week, she went to see another doctor, who insisted that she be done a Valium test on. As much as she didn't want to do it, he forced her, although she managed to avoid it, she came home speechless. She wasn't able to talk for that entire evening. My dad was in such a shock, that he kept forcing her to talk, I guess it's not his fault. Well after that, she hasn't had any other events like those, but she seems less active now, what I mean is that even while watching TV, she falls asleep, her eyes always seem to be heavy. Please help me out, my mother's life is of much importance to me and I can't bear to see her like this. I would greatly appreciate your help, thank you.
ANSWER:
Obviously I don’t know her entire story. Her medications could be contributing to the problem. She should have a full brain scan, extensive lab evaluations including thyroid and B12, plus I’d recommend looking at the screening test I use for my patients, as it could give clues regarding what the pain may be aggravating.
