Can Prozac And Tegretol Be Taken with Methadone?

Dear Dr. Heller,

Our daughter is on a methadone program in Australia and am wondering if it is safe to take Prozac and Tegretol along with the methadone.  She says the Prozac makes her sick.

ANSWER:

Yes, Prozac and Tegretol may be taken with methadone. 

If Prozac makes her sick, it's usually due to her also having the generalized anxiety disorder - which worsens with Prozac.  Treating the generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) with BuSpar can make it possible for her to take Prozac without the side effects.  Please refer to my screening test.
