Q. Hello. I am a a survivor with DID (Disassociate Identity Disorder). I believe that we have a part with BPD. She fits the definition of BPD as defined in the DSM4

I suppose my question is, is this possible? Can one part have an entirely different psychological problem than the body?

A. While DID (f.k.a.. "multiple personality disorder") is not uncommon, I have seen a few. They all also have the BPD. I view the DID as what happens when even psychosis no longer protects against crushing pain.

DID is fascinating, and amazing stories abound regarding abnormal mammograms in one personality that are normal with another, fatal allergies with some personalities that are absent in others, etc.

When I work with a DID individual, the principals are the same: make all the diagnoses and treat them successfully. DID individuals also need intensive psychotherapy and to live in a "safe" environment, even if it means having motion sensors in the bedroom to allow safe sleep.
