Q. I am really worried about my spouse. He has all but one of the symptoms of BPD. He was sexually abused as well as had family members murdered. Recently he has gotten very psychotic. Yes he is ok for a while but when he gets stressed he goes crazy. He has claimed to hear the voice of Satan. Later he knows this is crazy, but all the same he can't stop it. Alcohol seems to make it worse. Also he says he sometimes thinks about hurting me not in detail but he just gets flashes of horrible ideas some of them sexual and says he struggles everyday with horrible thoughts that fill his mind. His mother is convinced he is possessed. I think there are other things wrong. I also believe that her beliefs could have contributed and definitely his reasons for not have already gotten help. Do you think he could have BPD. Will this effect his job at a mental health hospital?

A. It's certainly consistent with the BPD, although other diagnoses may be present.

His problem untreated will definitely affect his job at a mental health hospital. Treated the chances of it hurting his job status are much, much less.

More importantly, he needs to be treated before some tragedy occurs.
