QUESTION:
Dear Dr. Heller,
Is Schizophrenia treatable with Homeopathy? Our son got over the positive symptoms with allopathy but the negative symptoms persist. He is not able to concentrate on anything, does not speak unless spoken to and laughs spontaneously by involuntarily remembering funny incidents from the past. At work he feels that he is unable to do anything, but otherwise he can think rationally when prompted. He is a graduate in computer engineering from the U.S..
ANSWER:
The simplistic answer would be if it works try it. Homeopathy is generally very safe
and non toxic. I'm not aware of any studies that it can help schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia remains a heartbreaking puzzle. It's a brain disease of some sort. Many
theories are being tested, and it may even be a viral infection.
The newer "atypical antipsychotic" medications like Risperdal, Seroquel, Geodon,
Zyprexa and Clozaril can have a huge impact on both positive and negative symptoms. Trial
and error is necessary with these medications.
It's also possible he has other diagnoses such as ADHD. The
screening
test
I use for my patients may be helpful in this regard, particularly if both
biological parents have any of these diagnoses.
