QUESTION:
Dear Dr. Heller,
What if anything can be done for a female experiencing lack of desire and/or vaginal dryness? Please let me know ASAP!
ANSWER:
Most important is to check the blood levels of estrogen at different times during her
cycle, and to check the testosterone level. Testosterone is responsible for sexual
interest in both males and females, and some women benefit from taking testosterone pills.
Vaginal dryness is usually due to a lack of estrogen, and estrogen creams usually solve
this problem.
Many mental health problems cause a lack of interest - especially anxiety and depression.
Some antidepressants can cause a lack of orgasm and subsequent lost interest. Adding the
antidepressant "Wellbutrin" can often be of assistance for these individuals. A
history of sexual abuse can be part of the problem, and needs to be addressed in therapy.
A cream containing arginine has helped many women to increase their sexual response,
sensations, orgasms and overall function. It's called "Viacreme" and is
sold by distributors. More information is available at

The long term safety and effectiveness has not been established.
