QUESTION:
Dear Dr. Heller,
Is sexuality possible with a person who's feelings get hurt at the slightest real or imaginary provocation?
From a long suffering husband who has problems of his own .
ANSWER:
Sexuality is possible no matter how hurt or mentally ill an individual is. The act of
copulation is a biological act. Many people use sex as a drug to feel better. Love making
is different and requires intimacy.
Intimacy is a different issue. Intimacy means being close and allowing yourself to be
vulnerable. It requires trust and a sense of peace. I believe true intimacy is an
appropriate goal in any sexual relationship.
