"Thank you for the information that may help my daughters."

Dear DR.

Thank you so much for you Website.  It has helped me so much, it has given me answers and some "peace."  I have 3 wonderful daughters, 2 of which have been diagnosed with OCD. They both have self mutilation tendencies, one bangs her head also, she is my 21 one yr. old.  She recently snapped, I am so worried about her.   She refuses to go back to her therapist, she has isolated herself from everyone, friends, family.  She seemed fine on 9-21 and on 9-27 totally snapped screaming cursing etc., accusing people, very paranoid, and than eloped!  Her husband seems to be an enabler, giving into her, encouraging her to isolate herself?  Your Q&A have really helped me because I have been at a loss of what to-do.  My other daughter, who is 14 was diagnosed in the spring after she carved her arms and tired suicide, pills, she sees a therapist weekly and seems to be doing OK, he tells me she also suffers from depression.  Thanks again. I have orders your book it seems to be my best chance! for them

REPLY:

Thank you for your kind note. Your daughters almost certainly have the BPD.    They may also have OCD, however OCD doesn't cause self-mutilation or these mood swings.  It's not a question of "which one she has," but what are ALL the diagnoses. The right medications will make an enormous difference.  I hope the information helps you.
