Okeechobee? Well Worth the Drive!
I first read about borderline personality disorder and Dr. Heller around January of this year. I remember being so amazed by what I read that I wished I could somehow see Dr. Heller. As I read through the pages at the Borderline Sanctuary, I was hoping that by some miracle his practice would be nearby. When I hit the button on my keyboard for his office location my silent prayer was answered! Okeechobee? Never heard of it, but it's in Florida and so am I! It took me several months to work up the courage to see him and the four hour drive had me wondering if I was doing the right thing.
When I arrived and his nurse talked with me first she said to me, "You won't be disappointed." No truer words could have been spoken. When Dr. Heller bounced into the room, I thought he looked much younger than the photo from the website. And the energy he radiated was contagious! I had written down some information on what I perceived to be my symptoms and he read every word. I was quite depressed at the time and my anxiety was high as well. Dr. Heller's optimism was my first hint of hope for improving my life. His words were sincere and most of all made perfect sense to me. He took plenty of time with me, using stories, analogies, board drawings, and reading materials to help me to understand what my problems were and how I could fix them. For the record, I am not generally an easily impressed person, but Dr. Heller made an unforgettable impression of genuine interest in my success. For that, I will be forever grateful. His brilliance is evident but his humility allowed me to feel as if I were just as important as any of the hundreds, maybe thousands of patients he has treated. For any skeptics out there who use the excuses I often used myself, that most doctors are merely pill pushers and out to make as much money as possible, do yourself a favor and do whatever it takes to see Dr. Heller. No one should have to suffer needlessly. We all have but one life to live on this earth (of course, unless you believe in reincarnation!) -- so if you've come as far as to read this site and my words, then take the next step....whether it is to visit Dr. Heller or read his books your life can be forever changed for the better.
With gratitude,
S.W
